A suggestion about the contents of these emails/letters:
Why do we insist on proposing the solution to our problems? One person wants to remove country limits, another wants 5 year EADs, yet another wants to file 485 regardless of priority dates.
I see 2 problems with this:
1- The external world doesn't care or understand. Do you think the average CNN viewer understands what retrogression or priority dates are? For that matter does anyone in the White House?
2- This divides us by EB category, country, pre/post July '07, EB3 to EB2 porter etc.
In your letters please focus on the problem. If invited to the table we can propose solutions, but now is the time to highlight the problems and the potential impact it has on the US economy, our families, and communities.
Examples:
Impact on US economy:
- I have significant buying power, however I am unable to make any substantial longer term financial decisions due to immigration uncertainties. I may be asked to leave the country on a moment's notice. If there was some stability, I may be looking to invest in a home or a new business
Impact on our families:
- My spouse cannot work. She is qualified and capable. Yet due to the vagaries of the immigration system, she cannot pursue full time employment without significant additional paperwork
Impact on the communities:
- Most of us hold strong political and social views. The current system makes it untenable and in some cases illegal (like donating to political parties) to participate in the democratic process. In the grand machine that is the American democratic system, we are probably the only group of people that are taxed and yet have no representation whatsoever.
Maybe these points are not strong enough. But if they are not, then it is not worth anyone's time to pay any attention. Find the legal immigrant population's "we do the jobs Americans will not do" slogan!

I don't think people are in reality. We are in an environment that we have to be diligent that they don't make it harder then what it is; rather then making it easier.
People started playing the devils advocate that if there is quotas on EB then there should also be quota on H-1b; sort of trying to say if there isn't quota on h-1b then there shouldn't be on EB.
A little while ago; some Indian nationals who were here on H-2 visa to help with re-construcing mississipi and louisiana after hurrican katrina got the bright idea to do a march and go public with their grievances. Their grievances were that they paid $15K to come to USA; they were given poor housing, poor working conditions and they want to get greencards.
Do you think they got greencards? No; now the law has been changed to not include India as part of H-2 visas.
Everyone should try to understand the reality that we are in.
This is exactly what I was saying. People are getting overzealous and are losing their balance. By attracting too much attention when everyone in power is being anti-immigrant you people will hurt everyone. They will impose some more restrictions on us.
We need to lay low for a while until economy improves and focus on keeping our jobs. That is the need of the hour rather than becoming a hero and trying to go against the wave.

If no one is ready to give you a job, then LEAVE to your home country! Period! No one forced you to come to this country. And if you do not have a job then no one has invited you here. You are on your own! But if you want to stay, then abide by the rules. Get yourself into another visa status.

IV core cannot "officially" endorse this... We are on our own.
As for sending flowers to Chertoff or Rice - It is good but let us stick with one person for now (Emilio). Unless you are willing to send to all three :). It will seem like there is more unity amongst us if we send more "number" of flowers.

Yes we have done that in Vancouver ... Landing ... next day H1 interview ... the next day to collect passport, the next day return to US

Hi,
Can someone explain the process of using AC21 for self employment? I have searched the web without much luck. If someone can throw some light on this topic along with how to deal with issues that come up with AC21 and self employment I would really appreciate it.

Check out www.shusterman.com and it has a section on AC 21 180 day portability. There you will find all the USCIS memos regarding this topic (starting from 2001 to 2003 and the 2 memos in 2005). The last memo from December 2005 addresses the issue and the way I understand it, it means you can have self employment while waiting for the final approval. But you still have to have an employer at the time of final approval of I 485 in the job category mentioned in LC and I 140.

I just checked with the city, and San Jose police dept. they don't know about this event and haven't issued any permit for it. Fightnow, since you originated this thread, please post relevant info. as to who is organizing it.

The Police dept. said that as long as the traffic and pedestrian sidewalk are not blocked and there is no violence it is ok with them. Now only if I know who will issue the permit, that should do it.

You are seeing it from a complete 180 degrees than I see it. It's not us who's discriminating, it is the laws which are discriminating. I am asking them to treat us all equal, I entered the country on an H1B which was an employement based application it did not hav any country quota, then why should green cards for EB have country quota. Why should a person from India wait for 10 year and a person from Romania get it in 1 year....I think your ROW friends shold understand our position.

It seems like the deeper we are in the process of GC the more time we spend tracking and speculating on the next week or the week after.
This week is going to be critical for the Notices because if we don't get them by 8/17 the following weeks are going to be even worse.
I'm tempted to call because of the time that has passed and becasue my checks also are dated 6/15.
