Hi,
If the Dems win control of the Senate, I expect no major changes for us. The amnesty bills are already passed easily in the Senate as is anyway. That doesn't change anything for us there.
In the House, this will be a close race. Even if Dems barely win in the House, what is less likely, then they may well find themselves struggling again to get major votes for the amnesty bills. Remember that the amnesty bills got rejected in the House by large margin - and - enforcement only bills got approved there widely. Our stand alone SKULL bill - not sure whether that will be considered by Democrats. Democrats will probably address the Dream Act before they take over the SKULL bill. Let them pass Dream Act, and then we, the Employment Base applicants will be in a real dream for a long time.
It won't be easy, folks.

Ombudsman, you forgot one important point however.
If the Dems do win the house, the speaker will be a Dem. and she will set the agenda to be discussed and voted upon. Also the ranking members on the various comittees will also be Dems. Therefore they will make the decisions such as, when and how to discuss these measures in committee, when and with whom to hold congressional hearings(expert testimony), when to go to conference and which representatives to to go to conference, and so on, these things influence the legislative process as much as votes do.
The bottomline is House Republicans had a fair shot at this and decided against any changes, I can't see how them returning is going to solve a thing. Immigration is one of the few issues that the Upper House and the Pres. can agree with a democratic congress on. Issues such as Soc. Security, healthcare etc will certainly end up in gridlock as the republican strategist Ed Rollins points out.

Received the physical card in mail today. Postage stamp is dated 22nd aug. My approval notice email was on 19th Aug from TSC.

Yup, kshitijnt you are right on target, we need to do some thing constructive and let our voices heard.
BECSufferer made it right heading...channel your anger.
My intention was more to think in right way and discourage potential -ve result bound strategies.
During presidential campaign there were all over promises on clearing backlogs, we can go on that basis and make a point of that.
One thing is clear if they like to stop outsourcing sure they have to encourage and stream line legal immigration they cannot stop or survive but cutting outsourcing as well leaving this legal immigration in limbo.
Besides what we can do at this juncture, keep our voices heard by contacting, writing letters.
1. In a world leading country processing a decade back applications is not an encouraging trend to legal immigration, this may send a wrong signal to legal immigration over illegal immigration.
2. Can highlight ecomonic point based on these math...

Under the circumstances we might like to approach the Hon'ble President by posting a well drafted letter (not more than a page). Let us see what happens. All letters should be posted withing a specific pre-determined time frame (within one week, say from June 1 to June 7) to create an impact. We might like to achieve a target of say 250,000 letters. This cannot go unnoticed.
The law suit option is not bad but probably would need serious consideration. The suit will have more impact if we first send the letter. Atleast then we will have a point in our favour - that we have been driven to wall with no option but to fight legally.
As a starting point can some of us come up with some convincing drafts? We could eventually come up with a good final draft.
Obama was the only person who did make a mention of the problems faced the legal immigrant community during the campaign. We need to highlight this too.

I see your point, time is of essence. Send as many letters as soon as possible.

There is a 99% chance of a TV crew covering this event. I just spoke with them and they are just working out the logistics. They will reach the USCIS office at around 12 PM and said that it would be great if some of us are available around that time to talk to them.

Please dont mix priority date with quota.
spouse's priority date will be the same as primary priority date.
We are discussing about quota here.
Lets say I have PD of Aug 2007 and If govt makes me to file under EB and my wife under FB. When date becomes current in EB ( which has higer probability ) I will be able to file but my wife will not.
Now questions will be what will be her status ? If I switch to EAD ? second if govt give them a legal status but they have to wait for 3-4 years to date become current and file for 485.

I guess USCIS has finally came up with the correct receipting procedure. As projected, every July-August 17 filers should be in the system by the end of the month.

Any updates on your end? I am in the same situation. My wife received hers over a week ago but I am still waiting. Approval notice received more than 2 weeks ago.

140K GCs were available on Oct 1 2005 and Oct 2006: categories were not current.
< 40K GCs were available on June 12 2007: all categories were current.
If there is a law to prevent acceptance of ALL AOS's on Oct 1 (when 140K GCs are available) then that law was violated on June 12 2007.
If there is no law to prevent acceptance of AOS's on June 12 (when < 40K GCs were available) then all categories should have been current on Oct 1 2005 and Oct 1 2006.
